AR seizes betel nuts worth Rs 9.97 cr

Assam Rifles foiled a cross border smuggling of betel nuts worth Rs 9.97 crore in Kamjong district during an operation conducted on Thursday and Friday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of dumped betel nuts in the general area of Humine Thana and Kangpat village, an operation was initiated and after conducting a thorough search of 10-12 houses in and around Humnine Thana and Kangpat village, numerous deposits of illegally stashed betel nuts were unearthed along with a truck which was illegally transporting betel nuts intended for unlawful distribution in the black market.
A total of 892 bags of betel nuts, valued at Rs.9.97 crore was seized and subsequently handed over the same to Forest beat officer, Gomnam, Kamjong district, it added.
