Sit-in protests attack, arson at Senjam Chirang

Imphal, January 05 2024:
Local Meira Paibi members and residents of Senjam Chirang, Imphal West organised a sit-in protest on Friday denouncing the persistent armed attacks and burning of a chicken farm in the village by Kuki militants in the wee hours of Friday.
Interacting With the media at the protest site, Senjam Chirang Kounu Leima Chanura Marup secretary Heikham Ambrapati said that the village has been facing attacks by Kuki militants since the violence broke out on May 3 last year.
In the latest incident, Kuki militants sneaked into the village and burned down a chicken farm (shed) in the village around 1 am on Friday , triggering fresh gunfight between the Kuki militants and village volunteers.
She also said that central forces deployed in the area have not done anything worthwhile to stop the illegal activities of the Kuki militants.
Instead of fighting the Kuki militants, they are the first to vacate the area whenever there is fresh attack from the Kuki militants, she alleged while demanding the government to replace the central forces with state police or another unit.
