Imphal, September 19 2023:
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has condemned the assault of a journalist at Thongju Beni Leirak NH102 by some bandh supporters and unruly conduct of interrupting the movement of scribes during the 48-hour bandh on Tuesday.
In a release, AMWJU IPR secretary Priyo Achom conveyed that since May the Union has made repeated appeals not to stop any journalist from doing his or her duty but to no avail as such incidents have not ceased.
The assault on an IS Com journalist around 10:20 am near Thongju Beni Leirak by some bandh supporters is viewed with all seriousness, the Union said, while lamenting that the bandh supporters not only blocked journalists from moving but also misbehaved with them in some areas.
AMWJU further maintained that if anyone has any suspicion they should check the identity card of the journalist and if any issue arises inform the Union or hand over the person to authority concerned.
