Churachandpur, September 19 2023:
Eateries, roadside singers and shops newly set up by internally displaced people (IDP) have mushroomed in many parts of Churachandpur town.
For instance, Tiddim main road of the town, which is always bustling with commercial related activities, is now witnessing many such hotels and shops.
The town is witnessing growth of population as most of the people in fringe areas are being forced out of their villages due to the present unrest situation and attacks though there has been some respite in the past few days.
According to owner of one of the eateries along Tiddim road, displaced people have been forced to undertake such ventures in order to sustain their families and at least earn some decent income.
Another displaced person informed this correspondent that they are hard pressed to do such activities willingly or unwillingly so that they could afford education of their kids admitted in schools in the town as stop-gap arrangement.
Another displaced woman named Lunkim, who used to run a school at Canaan Veng in Imphal before the violence started, said that she has been looking after hundreds of displaced children but yet to get any help from any source.
We have approached higher authority for help but there has been no positive response till date, she rued, adding that teachers in school should also conduct classes orally as there is no sufficient notebook for students.
This correspondent had even highlighted the problems to district authorities but failed to yield any positive result so far.
