Imphal, September 19 2023:
Stating that mothers of Manipuri society will stand for the village volunteers, Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup (SANULAL) has demanded unconditional release of the five arrested village volunteers while cautioning of a civil war against the government.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, SANULAL advisor Ibethoi said that the organisation strongly condemns the government for allowing the violence to continue.
There is no reason for prolonging the crisis if the large number of central security forces carry out their duties effectively and sincerely.
It is also rather surprising that union home minister Amit Shah pointed fingers at Meira Paibi to cover up his failure to contain the violence as assured.
Had the government contained the violence in the initial stage, there would be no village volunteers fighting in the foothills and Meira Paibis maintaining vigil on the street, she said while taking strong exception against the remark of the union home minister.
She further said that the village volunteers came out only because the government failed to protect the public and mothers will stand with them.
SANULAL general secretary Akoijam Shanti said that the ongoing crisis in the state is about to complete five months and Kuki militants armed with sophisticated weapons are constantly carrying out crimes against innocent civilians.
They also continue to desecrate religious sites of Meeteis and yet the government is remaining silence unable to do anything.
The 50 MLAs should take a stand for the state when 10 Kuki MLAs raised a demand to disintegrate the state, she said while asking to government to accept that they are simply running the government for their own benefits.
