Imphal, July 08 2023:
Students of EK higher secondary school, Sangak-pham, who secured positions and emerged subject toppers in higher secondary examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (CoHSEM), were en-couraged with cash rewards.
However, school's stu-dent Yendrenbam Meiraba of Serou Makha Leikai, who secured 10th position in the CoHSEM examination-2023 (arts stream), was found com-pletely devastated in a relief camp when a team of teachers of the school visited him on Saturday.
Meiraba is currently taking shelter at Rice Research Centre, Thoubal camp after his house was torched by Kuki militants on May 28.A team of the school teach-ers visited the relief camp on Saturday and encouraged Meiraba with cash reward.
The team led by school secretary P Saratchandra also handed over fish for consumption of all inmates of the relief camp.
Meiraba told his teachers that his house and several oth-ers of his locality were torched by Kuki militants on May 28.Meiraba said he even lost the hope of continuing study as everything was lost in the vio-lence but motivational lectures delivered by organisers of the relief camp changed his mind and decided to continue study.
Government promised to con-struct houses for families dis-placed by the ongoing violence but such houses could never match the value of ancestral homes constructed after years of saving, Meiraba said adding that he also thinks about his family when decided to con-tinue study.
After handing over cash re-ward to Meiraba, P Saratchan-dra said teachers of EK higher secondary school came to meet him after getting news of his condition in the relief camp.
He deplored that living of con-dition Meiraba and many other students taking shelter in the relief camp is pathetic.
