Imphal, July 08 2023:
Both the Centre and the State Government have failed to solve the present conflict and bring peace in Manipur, said members of the CPI/CPI(M) Parliamentary team who have been here since July 6 to take stock of the present situation.
Speaking to reporters at the office of the CPI Manipur State Council at Irawat Bhawan, Rajya Sabha MP P Shandosh Kumar, who is a part of the team, accused the Centre of ignoring the crisis and said Prime Minister's silence has sent out a wrong message to the people.
The Centre and the State Government are unable to solve the crisis.
Even after 2 months of violence, the Prime Minister has not spoken a word about Manipur, he said.
Manipur is a part of India and it is the responsibility of the Prime Minister to send a message and assure the people here that the whole of India is with Manipur.
However, the PM has chosen not to do this, he added.
The MP asserted that the Prime Minister ignoring the situation in Manipur means that the crisis in Manipur is not a serious one to him.
The people, he claimed, have lost faith in the Chief Minister N Biren Singh led Government.
Deploying security forces is not the answer to all the problems.
Security forces may suppress or avert violence but they can't bring peace.
To bring about peace, both the communities need to build trust and confidence.
Leaders and responsible persons of both communities should engage in talks, Shandosh Kumar said.
The visiting MPs have also urged the Governor to initiate talks between members of both the communities and their civil society organisations to build trust, he said.
Priority should be placed on bringing peace, rehabilitation .
and return of displaced people to their native places and education of displaced students, he added.
Rajya Sabha MPs John Brittas, B Battacharya and Binoy Vishwam were present in the press meet.
