Imphal, July 08 2023:
The 8th death anniversary of Sapam Robinhood was held today at Awa Ching in Imphal East district today with people offering tributes to the Lamjing Meira at his resting site.
Sapam Robinhood was killed in police firing on July 8, 2015 during a movement demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur.
The death anniversary organised by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) was held in a low key manner due to the prevailing situation in the State with family members, Committee members and others paying floral tributes at his resting site and hoisting the seven colour flag of Meitei (Salai Taret) .
At the observance, JCILPS convenor Phulindro Konsam said that the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) being implemented in Manipur doesn't have much provisions to protect the indigenous people.
Saying that they have been demanding the Government to adopt 1951 as the base year to determine indigenous people, Phulindro continued that the Government however has agreed on making 1961 as the base year through a Cabinet decision and the same is very unfortunate as a large number of immigrants allegedly intruded into the State in those 10years(1951 to 1961) .
He then urged the Government to reconsider their decision and make 1951 as the base year for determining indigenous people.
Reiterating that the ILPS being implemented in Manipur is a flawed system, the JCILPS convenor urged the Government to make the permit system more effective.
Phulindro, on the other hand, said that Kuki terrorists from Myanmar continue to sneak into Manipur unchecked even today and the same poses grave threats to the indigenous people of the State.
Saying that it is the Kuki terrorists who are hostile towards Meeteis especially those living at the foothills and periphery of the valley districts, he urged the Government to abrogate the SoO pact and drive out the Kuki terrorists from the soil of Manipur.
The JCILPS convenor further appealed to the Government to deploy adequate security personnel at sensitive areas so as to protect lives and properties and begin the agricultural works.
