Imphal, July 08 2023:
With reference to the government's move for setting up semi-permanent relief camps in various districts including Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has urged authorities concerned to accommodate the displaced persons in camps set up in their respective districts.
In a release, TNL president David K Shimray asserted relief camp(s) set up within the juris-diction of Ukhrul district must not house displaced persons from other districts.
He also suggested that to fa-cilitate return of peace, the state government must work out a policy to allocate the displaced persons in their place of origin and not scatter in other places.
If any displaced person Iron other district is found allocat-ed /sheltered in Ukhrul district TNL will oppose such a mow by the state government anc any eventualities arising oui of the same shall be the soh responsible of the state govern-ment, David cautioned.
Earlier, the Home Depart-ment had issued a memorandum with regard to setting up anc operation of semi-permanent relief camps in various districts including Ukhrul district in du aftermath of the ethnic violenci that broke out on May 3."In view of the prevailing law and order situation in Ma-nipur, a large number of fami-lies from a number of district; have been displaced.
The unrest situation in Manipur has affected the whole communities in the state.
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) fervently longs for restoration of normalcy at the earliest," the TNL said.
However, setting up and operation of semi-permanent relief camp in Ukhrul Dis-trict must not accommodate displaced persons from other districts, it maintained.
Meanwhile, TNL also expressed their concern with regard to the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country.
"India is a nation founded on democratic principles with respect for pluralism as one her core values.
She is a nation built on pillars of diverse cultures, religions and social practices," said David Shimray.
He further said that the Tangkhul Naga com-munity as a people have always respected the values and practices of other communities with diverse cultures and beliefs, who are building their livelihood harmoniously and peacefully in their land.
However, according to him, the proposed UCC will not be favourable for a nation where diversity is the norm.
In fact, the code, if passed, will only destroy the foundation of this dynamic nation, he added.
