Man dies in accidental firing, accused surrenders

Imphal, October 12 2023: A 47-year-old man died in an accidental firing from a SBBL license gun at Willong Khullen village under Maram police station of Senapati district on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the owner of the gun, who is responsible for the death, surrendered to police along with the licensed gun.

The victim has been identified as Sanathoi Khumukcham, son of Khomdon of Umathel Awang Leikai.

He has been living in the village since 2007 .

The person responsible for his death has been identified as R Moses (35) son of Railung of Willong Khullen.

Sources said that the two had been close friends since some six years ago.

Police source said that the incident occurred around 2.30 pm.

The two went to Willong Khullen village ori Tuesday to help paddy harvesting of another mutual friend named Kangba.

As they were resting in the farm hut, they saw some wild birds in the area.

In an attempt to shoot down the birds, Moses took down the license SBBL gun from the roof of the hut.

In the process, the triggered went off accidentally and the shells hit Sanathoi.

As they were preparing to evacuate him to a nearby hospital, Sanathoi died at the spot.

Consequently, Moses turned in to Willong Khullen village authority along with the gun and confessed to the act, which resulted in the death of Sanathoi.

Later, the village authority handed him over to Maram PS, where a case has been registered.
