Imphal, October 12 2023:
While welcoming the request of COTU to allow them claim the bodies of Kuki victims lying in the mortuaries of JNIMS and RIMS, Singjamei Apunba Lup (SAL) has, however, stated that it would have been better if COTU made the request after bringing or handing over the bodies of Meiteis killed by Kuki militants.
While declaring that such one-sided approach of COTU will never be accepted SAL, in a release, also urged the people of Singjamei not to celebrate Ningol Chakkouba in view of the present unrest in the state and considering the plight of displaced women taking shelter in various relief camps.
While stating that SAL does not restrict in performing rituals of Durga Puja, Panthoibi Iratpa and Diwali, it made clear that bursting of fire crackers and gambling by taking undue advantage of the festival would be prohibited in Singjamei areas.
Tributes were also paid to those who sacrificed their lives for the protection of Manipur, it added.
