Penalise 10 MLAs not NFIW leaders: Nupi Marup

Imphal, July 12 2023: All Manipur Nupi Marup has demanded the government to register FIRs against the 10 MLAs for trying to balkanize Manipur on ethic lines instead of initiating legal action against the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) women leaders.

Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhavan here on Wednesday, All Manipur Nupi Marup secretary L Sumatiba-la pointed out that National Federation of Indian Women leaders Annie Raja and Nisha Sidhu visited the state and met the people to extend support and solidarity to the victims and displaced people of the ethnic clashes particularly women and children.

They visited the relief camps both in the hills and the valleys which are sheltering people displaced by the ethnic conflict.

They only wanted to end the conflict and restore peace and normalcy in the state, she continued.

While recounting that during their three-day visit to the state, chief minister declared to resign while thousands of people converged in between the CM's bungalow and Raj Bhavan in-spite of prohibition on such gathering under Section 144 of CrPC, Sumatibala opined that the women leaders might have termed the scene as drama as thousands were allowed to gather in such areas.

Further stating that claim-' ing the act of CM as drama does not tantamount to any inimical statement, she also pointed out that there were numerous comments from ordinary citizens to even public figures on TV channels which called the CM's move to tender resignation and subsequent withdrawal as drama.

As such, Sumatibala urged for withdrawal of the FIRs registered against the leaders of NFIW.

If FIRs are registered for such candid statements, then FIRs should also be registered against the 10 Kuki MLAs who are plotting to disintegrate Manipur and the government should also disqualify them.

They are the leaders that tried to burn down the state, she contended.

Lamenting that numerous lives are lost and properties destroyed in the conflict that has been continuing for more than 70 days, she stressed the need of having a strong government so as to end the conflict immediately and prevent from further loss of lives and properties.

In order to have a strong government, a special assembly session should be convened where both the ruling and opposition minutely hold discussion to strengthen the government, she said.

Moreover, the chief minister should take over the charge of unified command and approach authorities concerned to replace central forces by state police and deploy them in sensitive areas as there are more than 40,000 state forces, she opined, while urging to end the violence and instead bring solution through dialogues.
