Imphal, July 12 2023:
Reacting against the stoic silence of Prime Minister Naren -dra Modi on the Manipur violence for over two months, Forum for Restoration of Peace Has asked the Prime Minister to visit Mani ur within 10 days failing which He would be held responsible for inciting violence in Manipur just as Aung San Suu Kyi did against the Rohingyas in Myanmar.
Speaking to the media flanked by Forum co-convenor Syed Siraj Ahmad Meraimayum, convenor Ashang-Kasar noted with regret that PM Modi, who had expressed sorrow over the death of elephants in southern part of India and devastation caused due to cyclones and floods in mainland India, is yet to utter a single word over the loss of hundreds of innocent lives in Manipur.
Accusing PM Modi of only showering praises and expressing fondness of Manipur and its people but does not care about the violence that is taking place in in the state, Ashang opined that the Prime Minister's indifferent attitude smacks of disregard about the oriental-looking people of the north east in general and Manipur in particular.
While stating that it has been extending maximum efforts to de-escalate tension in the state since outbreak of the ethnic violence, he also regretted that the Forum's appeal to authorities of state and centre to work out effective strategies to initiate the dialogue process for restoring peace in the state is yet to evoke any positive response.
Rather, the government author -ities seem be drawing satisfaction with only launching military operations by deploying large number of state and central forces, he noted and opined that only relying on military actions will not be able to contain the restive situation in Manipur.
