Imphal, July 12 2023:
Janata Dal-Unit-ed (JD-U) Manipur chief spokesperson Nimaichand Luwang has said that government must make the initiative to hold negotiation with the communities in conflict to end the ongoing violence.
Even if the government could not deal with the present crisis, they must find out the way to end the violence, Nimaichand said during a press conference held at JDU, state office at Palace Compound, Wednesday.
While lamenting that continuation of the violence for over two months is giving untold hardships to people residing in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts, which are mostly inhabited by Kukis, and the Meeteis in the valley, he opined that spread of rumour is abetting the conflict situation with the destruction caused no less than those fought between global superpowers.
While pointing out that proposal by the 10 opposition parties for convening a special session of state assembly to discuss the ongoing violence is being undermined by the present government, he maintained such callousness is testimony about the N Biren-government not interested in deliberating over the issue.
Such indifferent attitude of the government is also compelling the people to arise posers on commitment of the government to bring an end to the conflict.
Nimaichand also said that the path for dialogue and negotiation will come when state assembly discusses the crisis.
Political parties, CSOs and intellectuals have been sharing their views on ending the violence but government is yet to take any positive action to the end the violence, Nimaichand Luwang said while observing that government seems to lack the political will to end the violence.
