Cops escape abduction bid at Moreh

Imphal, July 12 2023:
Two commando personnel of Moreh police station escaped abduction by armed miscreants suspected to be Kuki militants this morning at Moreh.
After their unsuccessful bid, the miscreants reportedly fled towards Myanmar.
According to a well placed source, the incident occurred at around 9 am near a junction between Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No 2 and Nepali Basti when two the CDO personnel, Robinson and Bullu, went out from their post to purchase items from nearby shops including medicines wearing plain clothes.
The suspected armed Kuki militants riding an auto-rickshaw tried to forcibly pick them up from the spot.
The CDO personnel fought back and tried to escape but were chased by the armed miscreants and rammed Bullu with the auto-rickshaw, the source said.
The miscreants then fired 2/3 rounds of bullets and escaped towards Myanmar, it said.
State police personnel rushed to the spot and followed the miscreants but they were stopped and advised to return to their post by the Assam Rifles and other CAPF personnel who assured to take up necessary action and security measures, it said.
Bullu, who was injured in the incident, was rushed to Moreh Hospital for treatment, it added.
