Imphal, July 12 2023:
Renowned spiritual Guru Ravi Shankar has appealed to the people of Manipur to refrain from violence as clashes continued unabated for more than two months.
In a message, the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, said Manipur is a beautiful State with wonderful people and rich natural diversity.
He had visited the State many times and met people from all communities and had the pleasure of hosting Meiteis and Kukis at the Bangalore Ashram of his foundation (Art of Living Foundation), he said.
The current crisis in Manipur is painful and indicates a deep rift among the communities, he said while appealing to all to refrain from violence.
"Violence will not lead us anywhere; it will not bring comfort or prosperity to our current or future generations.
The losses suffered by the people and the destruction of property on both sides will only take us backward," he said.
"I urge both the Meiteis and Kukis to exercise patience and engage in a constructive dialogue," he said.
He also expressed willingness to mediate and assist in finding a solution if both sides express trust and confidence in him, he added.
"There is nothing we cannot resolve through dialogue.
Let us sit together and address the contentious issues peacefully," he urged.
"We must rebuild the confidence and trust that have been the foundation of our co-existence for centuries.
Justice and peace must prevail for all," he added.
