State, district level monitoring committees formed

Imphal, July 10 2023: Considering the prob-lems faced by farmers in the wake of the communal vio-lence, the state government on Monday constituted monitor-ing committees at the district and state level to look into the grievances of the farmers.

Addressing media per-sons at DIPR conference hall here on Monday, education minister Th Basanta said that the chief minister chaired a meeting of ministers, MLAs, chief secretary, DGP, secu-rity advisor and officials of agriculture department and minutely discussed issues and problems being faced by the farmers.

The meeting decided to constitute a state level mon-itoring committee which has IGP Nishit Kumar Ujjwal, dep-uty commissioners, superin-tendents of police of all the 16 districts, chief engineers of MI, CADA and water resource department and district agri-cultural officers as members with agriculture commission-er RK Dinesh as chairman, the minister said and added that leaders of various farmer associations/bodies including Irabot Foundation, Loyalam Loumi Lup and Kangleipak Farmer Association have also been included as members of the committee.

He further informed that other farmer's organisations in different districts can also be nominated by the respec-tive DCs as the members.

The member secretary of the com-mittee will be the agriculture director, he added.

Stating that the commit-tee will look into the issues encountered by the farmers while carrying out agricul-tural related activities and deployment of security per-sonnel wherever necessary, minister Th Basanta said that the district level monitoring committee will be headed by the district agriculture officer as member secretary and will have SPs, DCs, district level officers of departments and president/secretaries of farm-ers' associations as members of the committee.

He further informed that security personnel allotted to ministers, MLAs and VIPs have been reduced and used for providing security to farmers while carrying out agricul-tural activities.

879 security escorts in Imphal West, 243 in Bishnupur, 145 in Thoubal and 204 in Kakching have been re-deployed.

Help line num-bers will also been provided to the farmers very soon, he added.

Answering to queries from the media persons regarding farming by Kukis in Meitei lands, the minister asked for furnishing evidence in the form of photos and videos so that necessary action can be initiated.

He also said that the gov-ernment is looking into the report of some Myanmarese nationals who suffered bullet and bomb splinter injuries being admitted at Churachan-dpur district hospital.

Neces-sary actions will be taken up if the report is found to be true.
