Rs 1 crore, gold looted from Churachandpur Axis Bank

A Churachandpur branch of Axis Bank located at Tidim Road and Thangzam Road junction of Lamka town was found looted on Monday by staff of the bank after it was reopened for the first time since conflict erupted on May 3 in Manipur.
A hole was found drilled, believed to be the entry point, in the rear side of the bank's concrete building by unidentified looter(s) .
The two-storey building houses different shops, including an Airtel outlet.
Staff of the Axis bank said the branch manager was not present and that they had very little knowledge about the theft.
Reliable sources said that over Rs 1 crore in cash and a huge quantity of gold was found looted on the opening day of the bank today.
The lock of the bank's front door was found intact.
Sources also told this reporter that the bank is filing an FIR at the Churachandpur police station in relation to the theft case.
It may be mentioned that a SBI Churachandpur branch was robbed in September 2020 .
The SBI approximately lost Rs 1.15 crore in the robbery.
