Four involved in extortion arrested

Imphal, January 05 2024:
In separate incidents, combined team of Imphal East commando unit, Heingang police station and 4 AR arrested four members of two proscribed outfits involved in extortion.
The arrested persons have been identified as Md Imtiyaz Khan alias Angouba (21) son of Md Tajao of Kairang Mayai Leikai, Thokchom Romeshchandra Singh alias Ayangba (33) son of (L) Th Nilachnad-ra Singh of Phubala Awang Leikai, Md Salim (30) son of (L) Md Salam of Kairang Mamng Leikai and Aheibam Amorjit Singh (50) son of A Thoiba Singh of Kongba Kshetri Leikai.
According to police, a search operation was conducted at Sangakpham Bazar, Imphal East by combined the team at about 4 pm, leading to the arrest of Md Imtiyaz Khan alias Angouba, an active member of KCP (Noyon) from Sangakpham Bazar and recovery of one mobile phone from his possession.
From his disclosures, two of his associates namely Romeshchandra and Md Salim were arrested from Kairang Mayai Leikai and seized one motor-cycle (Bullet - Royal Enfield) and two mobile phones.
On further verification, they confessed about involvement in extortion of money from a pharmacy at Sangakpham Bazar, Jio office at Mantripukhri, scrap house/warehouse at Mantripukhri, oil pump at Chingmeirong, tiles shop at Thangal Bazar, etc.
Md Imtiyaz and Md Salim were working under the command of Th Romeshchandra, who joined KCP (Noyon) in 2007 through one Hitendra and underwent basic military training in the same year under army no 365.Romeshchandra is presently holding the rank of self-styled sergeant.
The arrested persons along with the seized items were handed over to Heingang police station for taking up further necessary legal procedures.
Meanwhile, during a mobile frisking and checking conducted by combined team of CDO Imphal East Unit, Heingang PS and 4 AR at Mantripukhri Bazar around 2 pm, an active member of RPE/PLA namely, Aheibam Amorjit Singh was arrested along with recovery of a mobile phone and Rs 6900.Upon questioning, Amorjit disclosed that he came to extort money from auto-rickshaw operating along NH-2 on the advice and instruction of one active member of RPF/PLA through mobile-phone.
He further revealed that the amount of Rs 6,900 was extorted from the auto-rickshaw driver.
The arrested person along with the seized item has been handed over to Heingang PS for further action, it added.
