Imphal, December 27 2023:
Maintaining that it is disheartened with the BJP-led government's inability to solve the on-going crisis in the state even after seven months, Thoubal Amashung Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) has said that the only option left for the government is to convene a Special Emergency Assembly session, take decision and forward it to the union government for return of peace in the state.
In a release, TAKDAL said that the 264-day long crisis in the state has not only affected the Meeteis and the Kukis but also caused hardships to all communities physically, mentally and economically.
To put an end to the humanitarian crisis in the state, TAKDAL organised public conventions and conducted peace rallies of senior citizens along with submitting a 7-point memorandum to the President of India with copies of the same submitted to the Prime Minister and Defence Minister, and Governor and chief minister of Manipur.
However, no positive measures have been taken up in this regard till date.
Instead the government is playing divide and rule politics in the state through different sets of law for the hills and the valley.
Referring to the recent order of the government for resuming public transport, the order of which was allegedly not complied with by the Assam Rifles, TAKDAL enquired whether the government is under the CoTU and ITLF.
It is now clear that Manipur is divided with Meeteis unable to cross beyond Sekmai in the North, Phoubakchao Ikhai in the West, Pallel in the South and Yaingangpokpi in the East, while the Kukis cannot come down to Imphal.
There is no peace in the state contrary to claims by ruling party MLAs and ministers.
It also urged the government to clarify whether there is a hidden agenda to cede to separate administration to the Kukis just as Jammu & Kashmir was divided into three union territories.
