JNIMS Relief Committee suspends free medicine provision
Gratitude extended to donors

Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, December 27 2023: Relief Committee JNIMS has conveyed its gratitude to the generous individuals and institutions who have collectively donated a total sum of Rs 10,48,490 to the Committee so far.

The Committee also informed that it will suspend its provision for free medicines to conflict survivors who have been discharged or are seeking treatment at the OPD, JNIMS ward etc from January 1, 2024 onwards.

This comes in light of a sizable portion of conflict survivors in relief camps shifting to pre-fabricated shelter homes constructed by the State Government, said the Committee in a statement.

However, the Committee also assured to resume this service immediately if the conflict takes a turn for the worse leading to injuries and emergency cases.

The Committee has also strongly condemned the act of setting fire to ultrasound equipment and medicines worth Rs 45 lakh allegedly by Kuki miscreants on the night of December 23 at Kangpokpi, reasoning that even in times of war, functioning of hospitals and movement of medical equipment and other related items are not impeded.

Saying that the Committee will continue to assist conflict survivors in various aspects, such as their educational needs, guidance for livelihood etc, the Committee has appealed to the public to continue extending aid to the Committee.

Elaborating on the financial and material aid it has received, a statement issued by K Seityajit, convenor and Th Bon Khurai, chairman, Relief Committee JNIMS shared that Lamlong Higher Secondary School, Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy and Modern College, Porompat have donated a sum of Rs 20,000 each, while Kangujam Babloo, EE, PHED extended Rs 5000 in aid and Singjamei 360 donated another Rs 20,000 .

Further, pharmacies from Thangal Keithel, Paona Keithel, Gandhi Avenue, Roop Mahal Tank and BT Road each donated around two cartons of medicines worth Rs 7 lakh approximately which kept the Committee's needs for medicines at bay for about three months.

The Committee then thanked JN Diagnostics and Babina Diagnostics for providing their services free of cost to the Committee from the beginning of the conflict.

It also went on to express gratitude to the Manipuris who have settled outside the State for their generous monetary aid to the Committee to support them in their effort to provide medical assistance to the conflict survivors.

With all this help from the public, accompanied with the assistance of JNIMS authority, the Relief Committee JNIMS has successfully provided medical treatment to 2365 persons and safely delivered the babies of 194 pregnant women, informed the press release.

Currently, 14 conflict survivors are undergoing treatment at different JNIMS wards.

Out of this, two are waiting for kidney transplant operation.
