Kpi, December 27 2023:
Intrigued and appalled over the Thadou Students' Association-General Headquarters' call for peace between the two warring communities in Manipur, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills termed TSA's stand as 'asinine' and 'irresponsibly supererogatory' gesture.
According to a statement of CoTU, the committee sees TSA's gesture as nothing but a desperate quest for its relevancy and despicable act to the frontrunners of the Kuki society.
In its rebuttal to TSA's call, the CoTU said it has been working tirelessly for the safety and security of Kuki-Zo people but TSA's call for peace between the two warring communities has caused confusion leaving the public exasperated.
It said that the Thadou and Kuki are indistinguishable, the former being one of the Kuki tribes while the latter is a nomenclature.
Slamming the TSA's gesture as preposterous and unwarranted, CoTU said whatever the intention the TSA-General Headquarters has in its depository will not bode well for peace but will instead widen the chasm of misunderstanding and ill-feeling within the Kuki-Zo people.
According to the CoTU, there have been times during social unrest when directionless Kuki-Zo organisations and persons with vested interests have strayed from the people's cause, stooping so low by wreaking havoc detrimental to the people's movement, which is neither people's mandate nor representative of the Kuki-Zo community.
It also said that CoTU will no longer tolerate such press statements, hate campaigns, or anti-social pursuits in any form that might disorient Kuki-Zo people from reaching common goal or which could pave way for any signs of discord among the people but rather deal with in the strictest term.
The CoTU then appealed TSA-General Headquarters to withdraw its press statement calling for peace at the earliest and appealed to the executive members of TSA Sadar Hills representing TSAJ General Headquarters to take the initiative to expedite the withdrawal of TSA's statement.
It also cautioned that any untoward incident arising out of non-compliance will draw severe reprisal for which CoTU shall not be held accountable.
