Imphal, December 27 2023:
Stressing the need for re-scrutinising all the thesis based on Manipuri history keeping in view of the number of PhD degree holders on the strength of fabricated history, Meetei Students' Association (MSA) would apprise the government to form a fact finding committee to look into the thesis prepared by such persons to find out fake and fabricated history.
In a statement, MSA, Manipur University, said it has been supporting the demand for Scheduled Tribe status for Meetei/Meitei and will play its part in protecting Meetei community.
Given the uncertain fate of the community, getting ST status is the most important means for constitutional safeguard of the community.
Besides, the community fulfils every aspects of ST status under Article 342(1) of the Constitution of India and the only reason for not granting ST status to Meetei is false records of history and civilisation, including the false claim of Meetei being an Aryan race, it said.
Today, the community is facing existential threat from the immigrant Kuki-Zo people from Myanmar, who claim to be indigene of Ma -nipur.
In order to substantiate their claims, several research scholars had published thesis and research papers based on false and fabricated history.
Moreover, these immigrant com munities are now claiming ownership of important religious sites of Meeteis in the hills.
Moreover, the patriots of the state are being claimed as freedom fighters of India's independent movement and INA flag hoisting at Moirang as part of India despite the fact that Manipur was never part of India before the merger agreement.
Renaming Mount Harriet as Mount Manipur is also part of such fabrication of history, the statement said while underscoring the need for scrutinising the thesis and research papers involving Manipuri history.
