Imphal, December 27 2023:
The Government has taken up a provision to distribute free PM-GKAY rice to the beneficiaries in Manipur every month uninterruptedly from January 2024 till 2028, said K Sathya Kumar, Deputy General Manager of Food Corporation of India (FCI), Regional Office Imphal.
PM-GKAY stands for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.
Speaking to the media at its office at Old Assembly Road today, Sathya Kumar continued that 45,410 MT of rice has been stocked at nine FCI depots to provide free ration to the beneficiaries in Manipur for four months.

PM-GKAY aims to supply free food grains to the poorest citizens of India through the public distribution system and it is the largest food security programme in the world, he added.
Saying that the scheme (PM-GKAY) became operational from March, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and continued till December 2022, he added that the scheme has been extended by another five years with the aim of "Food for All, Nutrition for All" .
K Sathya further said that they will install eco-friendly banners of PM-GKAY at all 2,341 Fair Price Shops in 16 districts of the State as directed by the Ministry of CAF&PD.
The scheme was approved by the Centre in November this year.
