N James buried at Mahadeva Ching

Imphal, January 05 2024: The mortal remains of Ningombam James of Mayang Langjing Tanning , who was killed in an attack, by armed Kukis on December 30 last, have been laid to rest and buried at Mahadeva Ching in Kadangband Part-2 on Friday.

James was shot on his right leg in the attack carried out in the wee hours of December 30 .

Although he was rushed to JNIMS hospital for treatment, he succumbed to injuries due to excessive bleeding.

A JAC was formed in connection with his death and along with the family had refused to claim the body.

However, after assurances from the government, the post mortem examination was conducted at JNIMS morgue on Thursday.

On Friday morning, a large crowd came to the morgue and carried James' body in a procession that covered Khurai Lamlong, Khongnang Ani Karak, Thangmeiband Watham Leirak, Lamphel Sanakeithel, RIMS, Uripok,.

Iroishemba and Lamsang Bazar, before finally ending up at his home in Mayang Langjing Tanning, where floral tributes were offered to the deceased.

The body was then brought to Taning Development Club, Mayang Langjing Club, where he served as a member.

At the Club, another floral tribute ceremony was held.

Later, his body was taken through Phumlou and Lairensajik, and then to his final resting place at Mahadeva foothill in Kadangband Part-2.Many people along the aforementioned routes paid their last respect to James on his final journey.

Mention may be made here that James Ningombam used tq work as a reporter of Naharolgi Thoudang daily.

James' father Ningombam Rameshor said that his son sacrificed his life for Manipur.

JAC convenor Y Imocha said that armed Kukis are still attacking Meetei villages, while observing that there seems to be different set of laws for the hill and the valley.

He continued that many have been affected by the violence, some dead and thousands displaced.

As such, the government should take all of these into account and put an end to the violence at the earliest so as to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
