Protests, condemnations continue over killing of students

Imphal, September 30 2023: Various organisations, student bodies and institutions continue to protest and condemn the killing of two students Linthoingambi and Hemanjit on Saturday.

Sit-in protests and rally demanding justice for the two murdered students were held by Namthailong Kabui Youth Club & Namthailong Women's Organisation, Thangmeiband at Namthailong Kabui village gate; National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Manipur University Unit at MU gate; Senjam Chirang Meira Paibi at Senjam Chirang community hall; meira paibi activists of Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai, Khagempalli Panthak & Khagempalli Pankha at Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai; All Kongba Road United Clubs' Organisation (AKRUCO) at Kongba Bazar; students of Mahei Leikol Kids Foundation, Bishnupur Ward No 7; People Protection Force (PPF), Irengband & its Women Wing at Irengband Irum Ningthou Laikol, Kakching district; Wangoo Mamang Sabal Nongyaikhong Mapal Apunba Meira Paibi at Wangoo Nongyaikhong Mapal and Wangoo Sandangkhong Meira Paibi at Wangoo Sandangkhong.

Meanwhile, All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU), Central Committee on Friday organised a candlelight vigil and offered condolences at Madhura Pool Point (Clock Tower), Silchar, Assam in remembrance of the two Meetei students who were kidnapped and brutally murdered by Kuki-Zo militants, a release by AAMSU general secretary Ashangbam Swapan said.

The release mentioned that protest was participated by more than 300 students from Cachar College, GC College, Women College, Ramanuj Gupta Junior College and many other present and former members and advisors of AAMSU.

On the other hand, Peace & Reconciliation Co-ordinating Committee, Keirao Makting, Urup Muslim, Kyamgei Muslim condemned the killing of the two students as well as the high-handedness of security forces on protesting students.

In a press meet held at its office on Saturday, Committee president MI Khan stated that the incident happened due to security lapses of the government and it should bear the responsibility for it.

Similarly, condemning the murder of two students, Zeliangrong United Committee (ZUC), Manipur president Maibon Phaomei stated that Union government can surely arrest the culprits involved in the case by giving a definite deadline to SoO bound Kuki militants as happened in the case of killing of SDO Kishan, Rajen and Token where cadres of a UG group in ceasefire with the centre were arrested.

He also emphasised that the incident should be denounced by all communities of the state be it Kuki, Naga, etc.

On the other hand, All Tribal Women Organisation (ATWO), Pallel, Chandel district has condemned and expressed its shock over the brutal murder of the two students who went on July 6.As per a release, ATWO appealed to authority concerned to take immediate action and arrest the culprit involved in the brutal murder of the two students.

It also extended their solidarity to the bereaved families.
