Imphal, December 02 2023:
While acknowledging the summon issued by a Court in Churachandpur district in connection with a statement made on July 10 last, Manipur University Department of Law head Dr Yumnam Premananda declared that he will uphold the court's order and face the case if adequate security is provided.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, Dr Premananda said that he along with Senior Citizens for Justice, Manipur (SCJM) vice chairman A Noutuneshwari has been summoned by a Court over his remark in a public meeting held on July 10 .
He further said that as a teacher of law it is his duty to bring out the truth and make it known to the public while asserting that the statement made during the public meeting was in public interest.
The department head also contended that his statement was within the realm of book of law and as a teacher he has every right to make those statements.
Maintaining that filing a case against him and Noutuneshwari, who are taking up various activities for the welfare of the people was very unfortunate, Dr Premananda said that it would be in the interest of public and a wise step to withdraw the case.
SCJM chairperson Khaidem Mani, who was also present at the press conference, said that according to the summon order, Dr Premananda and Noutuneshwari were to appear in the court on November 10 contrary to which the letter was received only on November 20.If a new summon letter is received again in time and proper security arrangement could be ensured, they will definitely obey the court order and fight the case in the court as SCJM will always stand for the truth, Mani said.
He also expressed as unfortunate that targeting the Meitei community in pursuance of the demand for separate administration.
The state and central governments should take up measures for restoring peace and tranquility in the state very soon, Mani stressed.
