Imphal, December 02 2023:
The Indigenous People's Forum Manipur (IPFM) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur urging him to take a prompt, decisive & quick action to identify, register and restrict the movement of refugees poured in from across the international border.
In the memorandum, IPFM also requested the CM to provide humanitarian assistance to the people at Phaikoh, Nambisha, Choro, Ashang Khullen (KAKA) and Namlee villages in Kamjong district.
The IPFM highlighted that following the outbreak of intensive crackdowns on pro-democracy forces by the ruling military Junta in Myanmar, thousands of innocent civilians have fled to neighbouring India for safety, shelter and protection.
It continued that the Kamjong District administration and bordering villages have been feeding the refugees who have taken refuge in the border villages everyday.
"The medical needs of the refugees are also taken care of by the district medical officers", it added.
The IPFM also asserted that fearing aerial attack by the Myanmarese forces, the border areas have become very tense and the lives of the people there become very insecure.
"Free movement of the refugees should not be permitted and they are not supposed to mingle with local people.
The refugees should be housed in well marked designated camps.
Biometric census of every refugee should be taken at the earliest and maintained properly", said the memorandum.
The IPFM further urged the CM to identify, register and restrict the movement of refugees in the vicinity of the border areas in Kamjong district.
