Imphal, December 02 2023:
In connection with the signing of 'Peace Talks Agreement' between the government of India and Pambei-led UNLF on November 29 in New Delhi, the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) led by Koireng placed outfit's position on the evolving situation to the people.
According to a statement of the Central Committee of the Koireng-led UNLF, the peace talk group claimed that their agenda for the talks shall be 'the restoration Of Manipur's sovereignty and independence'.
However, government of India has never agreed to incorporate the issue of 'sovereignty and independence' on the agenda of talks and this is the stand India took on holding talks with NSCN and ULFA.
This is precisely the reason why ULFA of Assam has not accepted to hold talks with Indian government till today.
In the wake of signing the agreement, India's Home minister Amit Shah twitted on his Twitter handle "...has agreed to renounce violence and join the (Indian) mainstream.
I welcome them to the democratic processes..." but Amit Shah's remark clearly indicates that there will be no issue of restoration of sovereignty and independence of Manipur through 'peace talks', the Central Committee statement issued by publicity secretary M Shak-Hen said adding that the developing situation deviates from the time tested fundamental political principle of UNLF.
At a time when Manipur is confronting an unprecedented challenge and accumulation of mind, strength and wealth for taking a united stand was paramount, creating an internal situation and weakening united effort was very unfortunate.
This tantamount to total betrayal of the goal of UNLF, which is enshrined in every patriotic Manipuris, which is 'Restoration of Manipur's lost Sovereignty and Independence' for which many of outfit's founders, leaders and fighters made supreme sacrifice since the past 59 years, the Central Committee statement said.
The attempt of government of India to give the impression that signing the 'peace talks agreement' ended the UNLF can only be described as ig norance of the dynamics of national liberation struggle, the Central Committee of UNLF said and appealed people of Manipur not to lost hope on restoration of Manipur's lost sovereignty and independence.
It also reminded the people that the outfit will carry forward people's struggle for Independence till the last blood as restoration of lost sovereignty and independence of Manipur is uncompromising and bounden responsibility for everyone.
