Imphal, December 02 2023:
Indigenous People's Forum Manipur (IPFM) has urged chief minister N Biren Singh for prompt and decisive action to identify, register and restrict the movement of refugees from across the international border into the state and to provide humanitarian assistance to Phaikoh, Nambisha, Choro, Ashang Khullen (KAKA) and Namlee villages in Kamjong district.
In a letter addressed to the chief minister, IPFM president Ashang Kasar pointed out that thousands of innocent civilians crossed over to India for safety reason and protection following the crackdown on pro-democracy forces by the military Junta in Myanmar.
The Kamjong district administration and the bordering villages have been feeding the refugees taking refuge in the border villages every day.
The medical needs of the refugees are also taken care of by the district medical officers.
Fearing aerial attack by Myanmarese forces, the border areas have become very tense and the lives of the people there very insecure, he continued.
Stating that free move ment of the refugees should not be permitted and they are not supposed to mingle with the local population, Ashang Kasar demanded that the refugees be housed in well-marked designated camps and biometric details of every refugee captured and maintained properly.
He further demanded to identify and register the ever increasing refugees in the vicinity of border areas in Kamjong district.
