Imphal, December 02 2023:
Political activist Maheshwar Thounaojam has urged all the members of parliament from Manipur to take a proactive role in the upcoming winter session of the parliament, which is due to begin from December 4, so as to remind all the other MPs of the country that Manipur is facing a crisis situation.
Addressing the media at his Keishampat residence, here, on Saturday, Mahesh-war said that the ethnic conflict which began on May 3 is yet to subside, considering the most recent attacks on Meetei villages in Koutruk, Sanashabi, Gwaltabi, Torbung and Kadangband on Friday.
Stating that even the union home minister and different agencies have mentioned about involvement of external forces in fueling the conflict in the state, he said that the crisis is no longer a state issue but of national concern, which should be "drilled" into the ears of all the MPs in the country.
He then said that he will try at his level best to ensure a decision against the external forces is taken during the winter session of the Parliament.
On the other hand, a complaint was filed to the National Commission for Scheduled Caste claiming that all the lands currently inhabited by armed Kukis are scheduled caste land.
As per the response from the Commission's assistant director, the government had submitted a report of 253 cases mentioning the unwanted incidents that have occurred on scheduled caste land.
However, no strict action has been taken up against the armed Kukis who are attacking the scheduled caste settlements till date, as was responded by the police.
This shows that the conflict is yet to be resolved, he remarked and urged all state MPs to take up the role of helping to solve the prevailing conflict as soon as possible.
