Govt accused of misleading public on assembly session

Imphal, August 31 2023: Congress MLA Th Lokesh-war has slammed the BJP government in the state claiming that the ministers tried to mislead the public by blaming Congress MLAs of preventing discussion on the current crisis in the state in the August 29 assembly session.

He even challenged the government to convene an emergency session if they are willing to discuss the situation.

The Khundrakpam MLA visited the displaced people, who recently moved into prefabricated houses near Khuman Lampak and Sajiwa Jail, and provided clothes for use in religious ceremonies.

Interacting with media on the occasion, Lokeshwar said that there was no agenda on the current situation of the state in the business list of the August 29 assembly session except for obituary reference of deceased former members of the House and presentation of BAC report.

Congress submitted five private member resolutions but the government did not list the resolutions, which is why the opposition members protested demanding the government to discuss the current crisis in the state.

It is not the opposition that objected the discussion but the ruling that created the drama so that they could avoid the discussion, he said.

Though over 60,000 central security forces have been sent to the state since the crisis began and they could be seen nowhere, continuous violent clashes testify that the central forces are unable to control the situation, he said while asking if the Centre is plotting a policy against the Meetei community.

He also asked why the government has not been able to flush out illegal infiltration of armed militants from across the border.

The MLA then appealed to the indigenous communities within the Kuki-Zo tribes to stand united with other indigenous people against the non-indigenous Kukis and illegal immigrants who are trying to bifurcate the state.

Their firm stand for the territorial integrity of Manipur and against the illegal immigrants can restore peace in the state, he said.

The MLA also urged CSOs to minutely observe the steps of the Centre and do the needful to uphold the territory and identity of the state.

The private member resolutions submitted by the Congress MLAs include resolutions to uphold territorial, administrative & financial integrity of the state, restore peace and normalcy while upholding the rights and dignity of all communities, press Centre to restore peace in Manipur, develop Moreh into a peaceful and secured cosmopolitan town, and to stop creating buffer or neutral zones.
