Imphal, June 30 2023:
A 9-member team of COCOMI met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi around 11:30 am at Imphal Hotel on Friday before his departure for Delhi.
Informing this to media persons, assistant media coordinator Khuraijam Athouba said that during their meeting with Rahul Gandhi COCOMI representatives enquired as to why and how the state and the central government in 2008 entered into a SoO agreement with armed Kuki militants whose leaders are illegal immigrants from Myanmar.
They also stressed the need for the Congress party to review over the intelligence failure during the signing of the SoO agreement and clarify the same to the public.
The representatives also pressed the Congress leader to collect the evidence of SoO cadres violating ground rules and facilitate abrogation of the SoO pact with the Kuki outfits, he added.
Athouba further stated that the present crisis in the state was earlier considered as a communal riot.
However, it has come to light that the conflict is not due to communal enmity but war waged by the illegal immigrants from Myanmar in coordination with the armed Kuki SoO militants.
The illegal immigrants and narco-terrorist groups in collusion with the armed Kuki militants under SoO in Manipur carried out activi ties and attempted to expand narco-terrorism network in Manipur.
He also stated that the demand for a separate administration in Manipur for the Kuki community is nothing but an attempt to establish a new Golden triangle in Manipur sector of India's territory by expending the poppy plantations in over 1.5 lakh acres of Manipur land.
Therefore, there is the need for the Congress party to help the government of India to prevent such activities, Athouba emphasised.
