Imphal, June 30 2023:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asserted that the prevailing situation is very critical and it's not time for resignation of MLAs and Ministers.
Speaking to media persons today, COCOMI convenor Jeetendra Ningomba said that Chief Minister N Biren should convene an all-party meeting urgently.
The issues of illegal immigration and external aggression by Kuki narco-terrorists should be deliberated threadbare at the all-party meeting before adopting a concrete resolution, Jeetendra Ningomba said.
All the MLAs and Ministers, irrespective of their political affiliations, must adopt a common resolution to drive back all illegal immigrants and root out all acts of terrorism unleashed by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists from the soil of Manipur, and the same resolution should be forwarded to the Government of India, he said.
The situation demands all the parties to leave aside their party interests but work unitedly in the common interest of the people of Manipur, said the COCOMI convenor.
Dissolution or suspended animation of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and imposition of President's Rule is not desirable at the present juncture.
Imposition of President's Rule at this hour of crisis would amount to gross violation of the people's democratic rights, he said.
If the Government of India commits the blunder of imposing President's Rule in the State, New Delhi should be held accountable for all the untoward and unwanted incidents resulting thereof, he said.
Highlighting the same points raised by its convenor at the press meet, the COCOMI also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
On their meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, COCOMI media coordinator Khuraijam Athouba said they told Rahul Gandhi that the present crisis is a result of the combined efforts of illegal immigrants, a large group of narco-terrorists and Kuki militants under SoO to carve out an exclusive homeland of their own out of Manipur.
The narco-terrorists, and some legislators and CSOs sponsored by them have been demanding a separate administration in the name of the Kuki community in order to set up a new Golden Triangle.
This was testified by the Intelligence Bureau's report of plantation of poppy over 1,25,000 acres, the COCOMI team told Rahul Gandhi.
The COCOMI team appealed to the Congress leader to spread this information to all the people of India and the world, and help the Government of India in wiping out poppy cultivation and narco-terrorism from the soil of Manipur, Athouba conveyed.
It would be good for the Congress party to review as to how and why there was intelligence lapse before the then Congress Government initiated a process of peace talks with Kuki militant groups whose leaders are of Myanmar origin, the COCOMI team told Rahul Gandhi.
Presenting multiple incidents of violation of SoO ground rules by Kuki militant groups, the COCOMI team, during their meeting with Rahul Gandhi, further underscored the urgent need to abrogate SoO.
