Net ban extended

Internet ban in Manipur has been extended to another five days (till 3 pm of July 5) as the restive situation in Manipur continues.
The Commissioner (Home) issued an order to this effect saying that the internet ban shall be in force for another five days to prevent any disturbances of peace and public order.
In the order, the Commissioner noted that there are still reports of incidents of violence, attack and arson of houses and premises including exchange of firing.
The Commissioner further expressed apprehension that anti-social elements could exploit social media platforms for the dissemination of inflammatory images, hate speeches, and provocative video messages, potentially escalating the law and order situation in Manipur.
In view of these, mobile data services, internet/data services including broadband viz- Reliance Jio Fiber, Airtel Xtreme Black, BSNL FTTH, VPN etc and internet/data services through VSATs of Bharatnet Phase-II has been suspended in Manipur except those who have been specially exempted by the Government, the order read.
