Imphal, June 30 2023:
Six CSOs and a students' body led by Federation of Civil Society Organisations Manipur (FOCS) raised strong objection against the reported move by chief minister N Biren to resign from his post stating that this is not the time to resign but to resolve the crisis, which unfolded under his administration.
FOCS in association with Manipur Women's Federa tion, Yelhoumee Kanba Lup, Universal Mothers' Organisation, Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup and Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) organised a press meet at its Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal office on Friday.
Addressing the media, FOCS president Th Manihar
said that the attempt of CM Biren to resign from his post before resolving the crisis is uncalled for.
Even though 10 MLAs have defected from the unity and integrity of the state, the remaining 50 MLAs are standing united and the state assembly is in power.
In such situation, tendering resignation is unacceptable to the people of the state, and the CM should resolve the crisis, which unfolded under his administration.
He also said that not only the BJP MLA but also MLAs of other parties including Congress and NPP should not think of resigning from their posts as imposition of President's Rule could take the present crisis to a whole new level and take an even uglier turn.
Taking serious note over the recent development of political blame game and some parties eyeing for political mileage, he asked the MLAs not to divert the blame only to the chief minister but join hands to protect the integrity and identity of Manipur by refraining from political blame game.
He also warned of boycotting those political parties, who demand PR in the state without understanding the history of the Manipur and genesis of the crisis.
Manihar further demanded the government to convene a special session of the state assembly to discuss the present crisis in the state.
Instead of pursuing central leaders, they should stand united and govern the state in order to protect its identity and integrity.
The state assembly should also take a strong resolution against the silence of Prime Minister Na-rendra Modi, he stressed and demanded the government to take a resolution to send back central security forces so that the state's forces could carry out the responsibilities of maintaining law and order in the state effectively.
