Competition on anti-substance abuse conducted

A reclamation competition on the theme 'The impact of substance abuse on academic and career aspirations of young people' was held Sunday at Don Bosco high school, Maram Khunou in Senapati.
The competition was jointly organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Senapati under its 'Neighbourhood Youth Parliament' programme and Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) as part of its combat against drugs campaign.
DRDA Senapati project director PP Ronald attended the competition as special guest while additional SP (NH-2/security) Senapati ML Kaisungbou, CWC Senapati chairperson Livingstone Joshua and former NEC director Siile Anthony were jury members.
In his speech at the event, PP Ronald elaborated on ill effects of substance abuse and advised students to stay away from contraband drugs.
He said that substance abuse and alcohol consumption not only affect one's health but spoil precious life.
NYK Senapati deputy director W Paulina Monsang, in her welcome speech, said that Neighbourhood Youth Parliament is a special programme of the NYK organised at block levels where students from different corners of the district come and participate in competition under specific topic so as to let the youth deliberate on it.
In his opening remark, SDSA president Robin Kangba said the competition was a part of the ongoing Combat Against Drugs' campaign, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about drug abuse.
He said that many students and youth inadvertently fall into substance abuse without fully understanding the extent of harm it inflicts upon themselves, their families and the society as a whole.
The result of the competition declared later in the afternoon had Roziiveinai Shine of Don Bosco high school, Maram Khunou bagging the first position and Kapeine Samson of St Joseph high school, Shajouba securing the second position.
The third position was jointly bagged by Raha Octavia of Bethany higher secondary school, Senapati and RK Erif of PP Christian English school, Lairouching.
