Model Code of Conduct comes into force

The District Magistrate of Kangpokpi district Mahesh Chaudhari has prohibited the possession and carrying of firearms of any kind by arms license holders within the revenue jurisdiction of Kangpokpi till the process of elections is completed.
The prohibition was imposed following the announcement of the poll schedule for the 18th Lok Sabha Elections 2024 and subsequent enforcement of Model Code of Conduct yesterday by the Election Commission of India.
In addition, the District Magistrate has directed the Superintendent of Police (SP), Kangpokpi to instruct the Officers-in-charge of all police stations functioning within the revenue jurisdiction of Kangpokpi district for compliance of this order and also to make arrangements for safe and secure deposit of licensed arms and ammunition.
Separately, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has also come into force across Thoubal district from yesterday March 16 .
The process of removing posters and hoardings detailing the achievements of the Government has been initiated in various areas of the district in compliance with an order issued by the District Magistrate, Thoubal.
In addition, District Election Officer/Deputy Commissioner Ahanthem Subhash convened a meeting of all political parties to discuss the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct today.
Speaking to this reporter, DC Ahanthem Subhash stated that 2,04520 electors of Thoubal district across six Assembly segments will cast their votes at 248 polling stations.
Out of the total number of voters, 99,243 are male, 1,05262 are women and 15 are transgender persons.
There are 4402 newly registered voters between the age of 18 to 19 years, 1287 persons with disabilities and 1002 senior citizens above the age of 80 years, he maintained.
Providing further information about the 18th Lok Sabha Elections 2024, he stated that election notification will be issued on March 20 and March 27 has been fixed as the last date for filing nominations.
Further, scrutiny of nominations will be done on March 28 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 30 for Thoubal district.
As previously informed, April 19 is the poll date while the counting of votes will be carried out on June 4 added the Thoubal DC.
Ahanthem Subhash also made a wide appeal to the public to cooperate with Thoubal District Administration to ensure that the election is conducted smoothly in a free and fair manner.
