Imphal, March 17 2024:
Former rebel leader RK Sanayaima alias Meghen has underscored the importance of detection and deportation of armed Kuki militants who infiltrated into Manipur from Myanmar to pave way for a peace process in Manipur.
Detection and deportation of Kuki militants from Myanmar would create a feeling among the people living in the valley that the Government has taken up a tangible step towards restoring peace in the State, Sanayaima said.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of a book release function held today at MDU Hall, Yaiskul, the former rebel leader stated that the violent conflict seen in Manipur was engineered by the Kukis for they were the ones who started the violence.
Saying that the Government of India has all the resources and capabilities to resolve the crisis, Sanayaima said there is information on the involvement of not only Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement but also armed Kukis from Myanmar who infiltrated into Manipur in the recent past.
It is essential for the Government of India to take the responsibility of controlling the Kuki militants and restoring the status quo, he said.
On border fencing, Sanayaima remarked that the Government of India would be seeing it as a positive step but Manipur would lose around 200 sq Kms if the 'real border pillars' of Manipur are left out within Myanmar.
People have been questioning the possible consequences of such border fencing.
Moreover, the people of Manipur have been still grieving the loss of Kabaw Valley to Myanmar, he said.
On being questioned on the peace agreement signed between the Government of India, Government of Manipur and a particular outfit, Sanayaima said that it would be difficult to comment on the matter until its contents are known.
A peace talk may be seen as a positive step if it can create elements which contribute to the revolutionary movement, the former rebel leader said.
There must be a conducive environment before holding any election, he said on the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
Under the existing situation of both the hills and the valley, no election can be complete, he asserted.
People would be certainly asking themselves how far the authorities can monitor the election process in the hills and if the electors can participate in the election process with any sense of security, he said.
Apart from releasing Kanta Khuraijam's "Ema", several literary prizes were also distributed at the function.
