Imphal, March 17 2024:
While maintaining that the schedule for conducting elections even as the state is passing through a crisis period is not a democratic process, social activist RK Meghen alias Sanayaima posed how long Manipur and its people shall have to sacrifice for progress of India.
Speaking as the chief guest during presentation of 'Shangbannaba Khoriloy Mingthon' and 'Meethoi Thougal Khonga Mingthon' award cum book release function organised by Apunba Khorirol Malemgi Lup, at MDU hall, Yaiskul Police Lane, on Sunday, Meghen lamented that the crisis besieging the state for the last many months has led to loss of many lives and put many in total despair.
Though conduct of elections is to be decided by the Election Commission of India, however, holding the democratic exercise at a time when the state is facing humanitarian crisis cannot be justified as a democratic process.
Stating that if peace talk between the government and revolutionary groups fructifies as expected or advocated by the revolutionary group concerned, it will bring good results but will create serious obstacles in the process, if demand and aspirations of the group are not upheld, RK Meghen opined, adding that it is the bounden duty of the government of India to put an end to the crisis in the state.
Presided over by Apunba Khorirol Malemgi Lup president Waikhom Amuchou Meetei, the function was also attended by theatre director and critic Dr Lamabam Gojen and social worker Khagokpam Khamba as guests of honour.
As a part of the main event, the 'Shangbannaba Khoriloy Mingthon' award was handed over to seven persons and 'Meethoi Thougal Khonga Mingthon' award to one person in addition to releasing a book "Ima" written by Kanta Khuraijam.
