Protests lined up to demand release

Demanding unconditional and immediate release of all the three functionaries of the Pambei-led UNLF arrested by the NIA, Indigenous People's Organisation Manipur (IPOM) announced sit-in-protest and torch rallies in different districts till March 21.According to a statement of IPOM, sit-in-protest will be staged in the day while torch rallies will be carried after dusk in different districts from March 17 till 21.On the first day of the protest Sunday, sit-ins were staged in Bishnupur district followed by torch rallies at different locations in Imphal West district in the evening.
On Monday, sit-in-protest will be staged in Thoubal district and torch rallies in Imphal East district.
On March 19, sitin-protest will be staged in Kakching district with torch rallies planned in Bishnupur district whereas on March 20, sit-in will be staged in Imphal East district and torch rallies in Thoubal district.
On the last day of the protest on March 21, sit-in-proteSt will be staged in Imphal West district while torch rallies will be carried out in Kakching district.
Complying with IPOM's call, sit-in-protests were held at different places of Bishnupur district on Sunday during day time while torch rallies were conducted at different places of Imphal West district in the evening.
Sit-in-protests were held at Wangoo parking, Wangoo Naodakhong, Wangoo Aakasoi, Kumbi-Ithai barrage crossing, Ithai Wapokpi, Kumbi bazar, Moirang Khunou Mamang and Maning Leikai, Moirang Lam-khai, Tronglaobi, Khuthekpi, Terakhongsangbi, Saiton, Saiton Hayaikon, Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur, Toubul, Khoijuman, Nambol bazar and others.
Torch rallies were held at Iroisemba to Uripok over bridge and Singjamei parking to Kakwa bazar.
On the other hand, Salung-pham Ward 10 Apunba Nupi Lup and FOCS jointly staged sit-in-protest on Sunday at Salungpham demanding unconditional and immediate release of MPA chief of army staff Thokchom Sidaba Mapu, intelligencechief Laimayum Ingba and sergeant Laandaba.
Condemning the arrest of three members of the Pambei-led UNLF, which signed peace agreement with government of India in November last year, protests continued in different areas on Sunday demanding unconditional release of the arrested trio.
Tekcham United Club Organisation and Tekcham Apunba Meira Paibi Lup staged sit-in protest at Tekcham ground, Thoubal on Sunday with the protestors raising slogans demanding unconditional release of the three arrested by NIA, condemning the act of NIA and appealing for peace.
