Firearms recovered, police team attacked

Imphal, October 12 2023:
Responding to intelligence inputs regarding presence of cache of arms and ammunition, a joint team of Assam Rifles, Border Security Force and Churachandpur Police conducted extensive search in Gothal-Phoulijang village areas of Churachandpur district on Thursday.
According to a statement issued PRO Defence, Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh, during the search operation, one 9mm Carbine gun, one tear gas gun, one improvised mortar, ammunition and other war like stores were recovered.
The recovered items have been handed over to Churachandpur police station for further investigation.
On the sidelines of the operation, a medical camp was also organised and essential items were distributed to people of Gothal-Phoulijang village as part of civic action programme, it added.
Meanwhile, Police Control Room informed that search operation launched by joint security forces in Thoubal district led to the recovery of one 7.62 mm SLR with magazines and three mortar bombs 51 mm HE from Usoipokpi Makha Sagomshang.
In its daily update, the control also stated that a police team was fired upon on Friday by unidentified armed miscreants from the hillock between Lokchao bridge and Khudengthabi on their way to Moreh.
The police also retaliated and engaged with the miscreants, it added.
