Imphal, December 07 2023:
A candle light vigil in honour of the Meeteis killed by armed Kuki militants was held at Sardarjung road in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Meitei students in Delhi along with many women took part in the candle light vigil which was held as a mark of respect to those killed by armed Kuki militants during the present crisis in the state.
Those present also observed a 2-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls and pledged to save the state from disintegration and safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, RPI (Athawale) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam acknowledged that students who are the future pillars of the society and the women of Manipur have been joining movement for preventing Manipur's disintegration.
However, it is very unfortunate that the state government is turning a blind eye to the agitations launched by the future pillars and the women of the state and leaving them on their own.
Whether the state government's act is an attempt to terminate the Meeteis, is a question worth asking, he said.
Maintaining that we cannot claim to have peace in the state when people are being killed every day, he stressed that time has come for representatives of the people of Manipur to highlight the actual happening in the state to the national leaders.
Maheshwar said that it is time that the on-going Parliament session discuss the state issue and try to find a solution to the crisis at the earliest.
