Inpui tribe holds first get-together

The first get-together of Inpui Thampei Khang of Inpui tribe under the theme "Honouring the Traditional Laws and Culture" was held on Thursday at Bakuwa village, Haochong Sub-Division, Noney district.
The event was attended by Noney DC Joseph Pauline Kamson as chief guest while Major (retired) K Gaigonglung and Merachao Inkah, president Inpui Naga Union were guest of honour and functional President respectively.
Merachao Inkah also hoisted flag of the inauguration programme as DC Joseph Pauline unveiled a memorial monolith and K Gaigonglung released Inpui Customary Book.
As a part of the event, awards/gifts were presented to the citizens over the age of 85 years.
In his speech, Joseph Pauline Kamson said that Inpui Tribe is one of the oldest indigenous people groups that has been defending Manipur since time immemorial.
He thanked the organisers for holding such an event in the area to preserve the rich cultural heritage.
"We need to preserve and conserve our culture and tradition so as to showcase our identity and uniqueness," he said.
The chief guest also exhorted the youngsters to study hard to become role models and researchers of the community's history, adding, "We need to live by honouring our traditional laws and culture".
Major (rtd) Gaigonglung said that the Zeliangrongpui community is like an orange since it is made up of four tribes that share similar cultural and traditional values.
"If we are God-fearing and cultured in our daily lives, the Inpui community will flourish and progress in all aspects," he said.
Gaigonglung then encouraged students to work hard, with strong determination and devotion until they achieve their goals, and to honour their elders.
To compete with more advanced communities and face the rapidly changing world, the Inpui tribes must go the extra mile, he added.
Traditional ho-hoing, traditional drum-beating, folksongs, cultural dance, traditional games and other cultural related items were performed by the delegates.
More than 150 delegates from different parts of Manipur attended the event.
