Allegations raised against JNIMS doc

In a serious charge, locals of Shirui village have accused a particular doctor at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) of engaging in corrupt activities by colluding with a pharmacist in treating a patient.
Speaking to the media at 3 in 1 Hotel at Phungreitang in Ukhrul, one AS Awor said that her husband AS Asing was admitted to the Ortho Ward of JNIMS on November 23 for knee cap treatment after he fell from a tree.
The first aid was given at the district hospital of Ukhrul, she added.
Aunty of the patient AS Awon, on the other hand, said that he looked after Asing whilst at JNIMS.
Saying that the patient was advised to take X-ray, ultrasound for knee cap surgery, she continued that a doctor suggested the patient to undergo knee cap implant surgery for which a connecting rod which costs around Rs 30,000 after discount (original Rs 32,000) need to be purchased.
Subsequently, the doctor in collusion with one pharmacist started demanding the money to buy the equipment for orthopaedic knee implant despite their request to wait until they get the health card, she claimed.
Awon further claimed that the pharmacist charged additional Rs 500 for providing tea to the surgical team and another Rs 300 for check up by a private staff at the ortho ward of JNIMS , apart from concealing the original price of the medical equipment.
She said that they requested the doctor to discharge after suspecting foul play in the treatment.
Claiming that the brother of the pharmacist also threatened the wife of the patient, she said that they shifted to Advanced Hospital on November 24 for the treatment.
At Advanced Hospital, it was found that the patient was recovering and required no surgery, she said.
Consequently, the patient's family also came to know that the market price of the orthopedic connecting rod is less than Rs 6000, she added.
The family expressed their strong discontentment for alleged negligence and non co-operating during their stay at the ortho ward.
