Imphal, December 07 2023:
Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO), which is one of the leading organisations of the Meitei Pangal community in the state, celebrated its 13th foundation anniversary at JN Manipur Dance Academy, here, on Thursday.
On its 13th anniversary, MMWO was also renamed as Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) .
Delivering the presidential speech of the function, MMWO president Boboi Khorimayum said that Manipur is still in the grip of a crisis and it is very unfortunate that the government is not committed to bring solution to the crisis.
MMWO condemns in the strongest terms inability of the government to resolve the issue and make the people hear news of killing and torture every day.
He informed that Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation will be rechristened as Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation as it is more apt.
However, the acronym will remain the same as MMWO, he explained and declared that it will stand unitedly and fight against any attempt to disintegrate Manipur and destroy the territorial integrity of the state.
Stating that different communities have been living together in peace and harmony since early days, he said that those communities trying to incite communal animosity and destroy the beautiful image of the state are very low-class people.
AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang, who was present as guest of honour of the function, said that despite being a Meitei Pangal organisation, MMWO has been relentlessly working for the welfare of Manipur till this day and contributing its mite to protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur.
He further stated that we need to understand the present 'war' in its true sense.
As the people of the state are dissatisfied over the manner in which different organisations and CSOs are combating the war, they are facing the crisis in their own way through different methods.
During the course of the crisis, altogether 150 new bodies have been formed.
However, the boundary area of the valley visible before the crisis has diminished now after the crisis.
In addition, the Meiteis are the worst affected by the crisis.
Therefore, we need to discuss and dissect the crisis and move forward instead of going by emotions and sentiments.
While maintaining that anger of the public towards the government is justifiable but should be placed in a proper and just manner, Nando Luwang said that we need to enquire as to why the state government is not able to convince the central leaders and why the central leaders are not putting in efforts to solve the crisis which they could do so within short notice.
We need to proceed knowing the fact that the present crisis has a political game attached to it.
Acknowledging the works done by the Meitei Pangal, Nando Luwang said they are considered and said to be the sons of Meitei women.
There are various communities where Meitei women got married to but none of their sons are said to be those of Meitei women.
The Meitei Pangal have been contributing in all the works and affairs of Manipur with a sense of belongingness, he said and added that Meitei Pangal should not feel offended when unwanted comments are posted by reckless Meitei individuals.
Nando further stated that the Kukis formed a body in the name ITLF which claims the Kukis as indigenous people which has been reacted and condemned by AMUCO.
Though the government has declared that there was no Anglo-Kuki war as such, yet the memorial stone remains erected till this day which needs to be dismantled, lest it becomes a part of Manipuri history.
The function was also attended by Moirang College principal Dr Md Raheijuddin Sheikh as chief guest while FOCS president Th Manihar, social activist Leitanthem Angomcha Mainou, MPCM president Haji Arafat, MMWO advisor Md Hasimuddin Moinam, JCILPS convenor Phulindro Konsam, UMO president Moirangthem Sorojini Leima and MMWO founder president Abdulah Phundreimayum were present as guests of honour.
