Imphal, December 07 2023:
Janata Dal (United) Manipur has categorically stated that the government should bear the responsibilities for the death of 13 youths on December 4 and further condemned liquor legalisation amidst the present unrest in the state.
Speaking to media persons, here, on Thursday, JD (U) state chief spokesperson Dr Nimaichand Luwang strongly condemned the brutal killing of 13 youths in captivity by suspected Kuki militants on December 4 and contended that the government is responsible for the death.
It is unfortunate that the government failed to take up the crisis situation in the parliament even though the conflict has been continuing for over seven months, he added.
Reacting to the recent cabinet approval to legalise production and sale of liquor, he expressed remorse that the government is infatuated with collecting revenue of Rs 600 crore from liquor export rather than prioritising solution to the on-going unrest situation while declaring that JD-U will never endorse such am anti-people decision.
Though JD (U) has not much to comment on the recent electoral victory of BJP in three states as it was a people's mandate, the BJP state unit pompously celebrating the triumph when the people are suffering as a consequence of the ethnic conflict underscore irresponsible and unsympathetic administration, Nimaichand opined, while pointing out that now is not the time to talk about election.
He wished that BJP win the upcoming election without even campaigning but only after addressing the sufferings besetting the people.
The press conference was also attended by JD-U president and former minister Kshetrimayum Biren.
