Imphal, April 03 2024: Will not participate in the elections until normalcy returns and "we are allowed to return home," said displaced folks in relief camps at Kakching Khunou.

Their houses burnt and destroyed, the displaced people have been staying at relief camps opened at Khomdonbi Memorial English School and Kakching Khunou Community Hall.

Majority of them hail from Sugnu, Serou, Wapokpi, Napat and Tangjeng Ahallup.

Laishram Basanti, from Serou Makha Leikai, said her family has spent 11 months at relief camps.

"Voting is not a priority to us.

What we want is our lives back," she said.

Inmates from Napat said all their homes have been razed to the ground by Kuki militants during the conflict which started on May 3 last.

"We have lost our home, our life savings and all our properties.

We are unable to return home.

We have no home left.

We do not want vote, we want our houses built," said the displaced people of Napat.

They reiterated that they will not vote in the Lok Sabha elections until they are allowed to go back to their village and settle in peace.

The current conflict which started last year has left more than 60,000 people displaced.

Manipur will vote in two phases in the Lok Sabha elections--on April 19 and April 26 .
