SVEEP campaign : Importance of free and fair election highlighted

As a run-up to the 18th Lok Sabha Election, 2024, the District Administration Kamjong today conducted a SVEEP (Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation) Campaign at Phungyar to sensitize the electors about the importance of free and fair election.
During the campaign, Headman of Phungyar AS Shimreishang Siro stated that the electors of Phungyar are fortunate to participate in the SVEEP Campaign being conducted today under the supervision of District Election Officer, Kamjong.
He further appealed to the electors of Phungyar to come out and participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election.
The right to vote is not just a privilege but a basic human right and we should exercise our right freely and fairly, the Headman added.
While pointing out the significance of SVEEP Campaign, Nodal Officer (SVEEP) U Nakhedei said, 'We should exercise our valuable vote in a rightful manner and not let ourselves bribe for our vote.
Let's give vote to the one who can bring positive changes and development for the society' .
The Nodal Officer further stated that every eligible citizen of sound mind above the age of 18 years irrespective of individual, caste, religion, social or economic status could exercise their franchise and participate in the electoral process.
ECI also has a special provision for the differently-abled persons, 80+ citizens and centurian citizens, he added.
SVEEP Icon of Kamjong District, Thangmeiso Shinglai, a renowned artist from Tangkhul community, enthralled the crowd with his mesmerizing voice and encouraged the audience to participate in elections.
A quiz competition was also conducted as a part of the campaign along with the distribution of especially designed caps.
SVEEP is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India.
It is a multi-intervention programme that reaches out through different modes and media to educate citizens, electors, and voters about the electoral process in order to increase their awareness and promote their informed participation.
SVEEP is designed according to the socio-economic, cultural, and demographic profile of the state as well as history of electoral participation in previous rounds of elections.
The Commission produces several voter awareness materials and disseminates the same through various mediums/platforms of communication i.e., print media, electronic media, social media etc.
