Five held with heroin, brown sugar

Imphal, April 03 2024:
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal Regional Unit sleuths arrested four persons along with heroin worth Rs 4.0736 crore in the international market on March 1 .
A release issued by DRI Imphal deputy director Ganreipou informed that the unit intercepted an i20 Hyundai at Bishnupur bazar and seized 50 soap cases containing 581.95 grams of heroin worth Rs 4.0736 crore.
Four persons have been arrested under provisions of the NDPS Act 1985 for their involvement in the case.
Meanwhile, Thoubal district police team arrested a man with 584 grams of suspected brown sugar from Lilong Chingkham crossing around 12.15 pm on Wednesday.
The arrested person has been identified as Moijingmayum Rafik Khan alias Apikcha (39) son of (L) M Alauddin of Moijing Awang Leikai.
According to police, Thoubal district police led by ASP (ops) H Devendra Singh conducted frisking and checking as a part of preventive measure taken up in connection the upcoming Lok Sabha election at Lilong Chingkham crossing area.
During the checking, 548 grams of suspected brown sugar were seized from him.
The arrested person along with the seized item has been handed over to Lilong police station for taking further necessary legal action, it added.
